Introduction - Migration Policy in Ireland

The object of this blog is to highlight and discuss the primary topics of debate in the area of Irish migration and visa policy.

Over the coming months I intend to raise some of the key issues with the intention of creating a dialog and discussion place for the reform agenda.

In my view, Ireland needs to establish a more efficient, simplistic and policy driven immigration system to replace the historic emphasis on labour intensive procedures, assumption of good faith and discretionary decision making.

I intend to explore issues such as;

     - Ireland and Schengen
     - International Transit in Dublin Airport
     - The Common Travel Area between Ireland and the UK
     - Visa Issues at Irish Embassies Abroad
     - US - Pre Flight Clearance in Dublin and Shannon
     - Immigration control at Irish Ports and Harbors
     - Customs Enforcement in Ireland
     - Refugee and Asylum Policy in Ireland

The Changing Role of Strategic Alliances in the Air Transport Industry - 2006

Increased competition in the industry, coupled with lower fares, has resulted in a real need for traditional airlines to cut costs. One way in which carriers propose cutting costs is through finding synergies by establishing co-operation with other carriers. In recent years, airlines have been reassessing both the potential for co-operation with other carriers and the value gained from the agreements and alliances of which they are already a part.

This 2006 research project contributed by providing a better understanding of the role played by strategic alliances for both traditional airlines and LCC’s. To do this it evaluated senior managerial perceptions of the viability of such strategic alliances and their usefulness in different environments.
